Mortgage-free after the Camino 🌲

Happy Monday! Tiny houses on wheels. A mortgage-free Kookaburra on a Blue Mountains hill, a 29-foot home with a real bedroom door, and five more on trailers.

🌲 Mortgage-Free After the Camino
Joanne walked the Camino de Santiago twice, five weeks each time, then came home to a Sydney studio and a mortgage she was worried about keeping after a workplace injury. She sold the apartment. Her daughter and son-in-law offered the front hill. Two years in, she lives mortgage-free in an 8 × 3 m Unplgd Kookaburra plus a 6 × 2.8 m living pod, both on trailers, joined by a deck. The main house ran close to AU$220,000; both tinies came to about AU$250,000.

🚪 A 29-Foot Home With a Real Bedroom Door
CozyCo’s Esther is 9 meters on a tri-axle trailer, and it gives up the open-studio plan for actual rooms: kitchen and living at one end, a full bathroom in the middle, a bedroom with a door at the other. Single level, full standing headroom, no loft. It starts around $135,000 AUD. If you want to close a door and go to bed while someone else is still up, this is the one in their range that lets you.

🪵 A Hand-Built Tumbleweed Fencl in Alaska
Built in 2013 from Jay Shafer’s Fencl plan and tucked in the trees in Soldotna: cedar siding, teak floors, two lofts, a full bath, a real kitchen, and a washer/dryer. About 130 square feet, twelve Alaska winters, asking $60,000. The hot water tank needs replacing; the seller puts that under $1,000 and the price already reflects it.

🪟 An 8.5-Foot Window Over a Raised Living Room
Spindrift Homes’ Black Butte is 30 feet by 10 feet, charred wood outside, Baltic birch and honey oak in. The living room sits on a raised platform in front of an 8.5-foot picture window, with eight-foot-deep storage drawers underneath. Fully furnished from Bend, Oregon, at $160,000, including a freestanding soaking tub.

🪵 144 Sq Ft of Solid Teak, Never Slept In
The MoD is an 18-foot off-grid studio wrapped in solid teak millwork and glass on three sides. No loft. A reverse awning window lifts over the daybed. 1,280 watts of solar, a teak-floored wet room, and a cooktop that lives in a drawer. Listed at $124,500 in Costa Mesa, recently reduced from $148,500, and it has never been slept in.

A Main-Floor Queen for $45,440
Escape’s eBoho GO is the smallest of the eBoho models: single-axle, all-electric, no loft, a built-in queen on the main floor with drawers underneath. Butcher-block counter with an induction cooktop, a separate bathroom with a real shower, and a mini-split. Special in-stock price of $45,440.

🛏️ An Extra Bedroom Without the Extension
CozyCo’s Cub has no kitchen on purpose. It is a bedroom with its own ensuite, delivered on a trailer, from $70,000 AUD. Aimed at the extra room you would otherwise get by extending the house: visiting parents, a teenager’s retreat, a guest suite 20 meters from the main kitchen.

"Walk the Camino and you will realize what is important in your life."
~ Joanne
